Cargolux welcomes pharmaceutical expansion at Luxembourg Airport Luxembourg

Cargolux Airlines International S.A. welcomes the capacity expansion at its home base, the Luxembourg CargoCenter, where LuxairCargo is in the process of adding a dedicated Healthcare & Pharmaceuticals Center that will go into operation in spring 2013. As a committed and experienced expert in the transport of pharmaceuticals and other temperature sensitive items, Cargolux is renowned for its top-of-the-range solutions for the transportation of these delicate and sensitive commodities by air.
LuxairCargo’s new Healthcare & Pharmaceuticals Center will enable Cargolux to further enhance its pharmaceuticals services. The 3,000 m2 facility offers two temperature zones with permanent temperature monitoring and fulfills all WHO and IATA requirements, as well as GDP compliant, which deals with the guidelines for the proper distribution of medical products for human use. With six dedicated temperature-controlled truck docks, the layout of the infrastructure guarantees very short transit times form aircraft to truck and vice versa.
In more than 40 years, Cargolux has developed a unique team of experts and stringent Standard Operating Procedures which ensure that pharmaceuticals and healthcare products, as well as other perishable commodities, travel through an unbroken chain of temperature-controlled environments from the time they are accepted at their origin until delivery at their final destination. Its 747-400 and 747-8 freighters guarantee optimal conditions with four independently adjustable temperature zones on board that allow the transportation of different types of commodities on the same flight.
‘Managing temperature is an art’ says Cargolux’s Stavros Evangelakakis.’It is crucial that every single person involved in the transportation process understands the need for an unbroken temperature chain. This awareness, that we have established internally, is what we promote externally.’
Cargolux’s Franco Nanna likes to describe Cargolux’s Cool Team mission as a scrupulous exercise: “There are things in life that may sound easy, but at Cargolux, we are relentlessly working towards achieving the level of quality service required and expected by our valuable customers.”
Cargolux is a member of IATA TTTF (the IATA Time and Temperature Task Force) and CCA (Cool Chain Association), who aim to continuously improve the supply chain of perishable items with the support of the industry, involving all conceivable stakeholders in the healthcare community.
